Oct. 8 recap: How every VCU team did this week

Women’s volleyball vs. Davidson College
VCU managed to pull off a 3-2 comeback win against Davidson, securing its fourth win of the season. The Rams trailed behind the Wildcats 1-2, but they showed their horns with some strong performances. VCU fourth-year opposite Julia Rienks kept the Rams’ hopes alive with her dominant display of skills. Rienks had a career-high of 29 kills, which is the most by any VCU player in 12 years, according to VCU Athletics.
Women’s soccer at Duquesne University
Duquesne University destroyed VCU 3-0 on the road. The Rams played an offensive first 13 minutes against the Dukes, placing two shots on goal. VCU third-year goalkeeper Mia Pongratz shined in the match up, tying her career high with eight saves, according to VCU Athletics.
Field hockey vs. Davidson College
VCU stayed consistent on its home turf against Davidson College and won a 2-1 game with a late goal. VCU fourth-year Morena Macera had the first goal of the game off of a penalty stroke. Macera also contributed to the second goal of the game with an assist. The Rams were locked in until the 57 minute mark, with a late goal from second-year Ana Afonso Osorio.
Women’s volleyball at Saint Louis University (game one)
VCU took the win against Saint Louis University 3-2. The Rams ended the game with an impressive 68 kills, compared to Saint Louis’ 57, according to VCU Athletics. Fourth-year outside hitter Alicja Jaryszek bagged a career high of 25 kills to help the Rams rally for the win.
Women’s volleyball at Saint Louis University (game two)
The Rams secured their sweep of the Billikens by winning game two 3-1. VCU’s Jaryszek had another big game with 11 kills and one block. VCU took home the victory, and Rienks also reached a big milestone during the game as she recorded her 1,000th career kill.
Men’s soccer vs. La Salle University
VCU put out a strong performance against La Salle University with a 1-1 tie. The Rams led the Explorers for most of the match until the last five minutes of the game. VCU’s only goal came from third-year forward Sulaiman Abdul-Mateen, who finished the match with both his shots on target, according to VCU Athletics.
Women’s soccer vs. University of Dayton
Dayton showed little mercy to VCU as the Rams fell in a 4-0 beatdown. The Flyers had a massive 23 shots during the match, with the Rams getting only six, according to VCU Athletics. VCU let in a pair of goals in each half of the game as Dayton cruised through Sports Backers stadium to keep its undefeated A-10 record for the season.
