Water bottles were handed out in the humid weather Saturday as members of the class of 2023 moved into residence halls on Saturday. The incoming class has approximately 4,500 students.

Nearly 2,000 are from Northern Virginia, and about 900 are from the Richmond metro area. Minority students represent 57% of the first-year class, and 32% of the new students are first-generation college students.

The incoming class is about 100 students smaller than last year’s class of about 4,600. Last year’s freshman enrollment broke the university’s previous record of 4,234 students.
