Head coach Shaka Smart and the men’s basketball team have said all year they focus on going ‘1-0’ every game.  One win against the University of Dayton Flyers on Sunday, in the Atlantic 10 title game, will make the Rams conference champions.

Getting to the championship game has been the easy part for VCU. The Rams are just the fourth team to advance to three-straight A-10 title games.

A win eluded the Rams in previous years. This time, the men’s basketball team want to end their championship drought.

A win over Fordham in the second round earned VCU a shot at the University of Richmond, a team the Rams had loss to twice this season. Richmond did not complete the trifecta, losing to the Rams in the conference quarterfinals, 70-67.

Next, VCU faced Davidson College, a team who handed VCU their worst loss of the season ten days ago. The 27-point loss at the hands of the Wildcats turned into a 22-point win for the Rams in the conference semifinals, 93-73.

Now, the Flyers look to avenge a 59-55 home loss against Dayton that knocked them from atop the A-10.
