PTSD doesn’t turn men into monsters
A man named Omar Gonzales recently made headlines after he charged across the north lawn of the White House with a knife. The reason is best summed up by the CNN headline: “White House fence jumper has PTSD.” There are dozens of headlines like it, and stories like this pop up perennially claiming post-traumatic stress disorder turns veterans into “ticking time bombs” one flashback away from going on a rampage. As an Army veteran diagnosed with service-related PTSD, I am absolutely tired of hearing this.

Double-duty for O’Brien as coach for inaugural women’s lacrosse program, club WLAX
VCU women’s lacrosse program is still a year away, but for head coach Jen Kasper O’Brien, coaching the club women’s lacrosse team has been her solace. With anticipation growing for the inaugural year and preparations for the new club WLAX season in progress, O’Brien welcomes seven new players to the fold: a seven-person freshmen recruiting class who will act as the foundation for the startup program, as well as an eager club squad, some of whom hope to make the jump to the Atlantic 10 conference next year.
Looking good, playing well equals student-athlete success
In March of this year, VCU’s athletic program unveiled a new logo for the second time in as many years, toward the end of the 2013-14 school year. The logo was not placed on VCU apparel until Aug. 16 when the Black and Gold Volleyball scrimmage served as the official start of the 2014-15 calander year and introduction of the logo on VCU team uniforms.
Men’s golf places fifth overall in Janney shootout
VCU men’s golf team earned a fifth place finish at the Janney VCU Shootout, on the clubs of junior Adam Ball, junior Steffan Harm and sophomore Hanish Nagrani in the final round to finish the tournament with an overall team score of 884.
Teaching residency program helps revitalize Richmond public schools
VCU President Michael Rao and U.S. Senator Tim Kaine visited T.C. Boushall Middle School to observe the Richmond Teachers Residence graduate program on Friday. RTR is a four-year residency program that provides aspiring teachers with training and field experience in the classroom while awarding university credit.
