The VCU Police Department today reported a sexual assault via VCU Alert to students and staff.

The location of the assault is unknown, according to the alert.VCU PD spokesperson Michael Kelly said the assault could have happened today or sometime in the past. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure statement offered few additional details, but added the incident may have been “drug facilitated.”

“We don’t know all the circumstances; we don’t know where it occurred,” Kelly said.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure statements are used to notify students of threatening conditions that may continue to exist on or near campus.

“Our intent is never to frighten or startle … just to make sure they have the information they need,” Kelly said.

There are multiple resources on campus for survivors of sexual assault including Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Services through the Wellness Resource Center and the VCU Police Victim-Witness Specialist. Additional resources about sexual misconduct can be found on the Sexual Violence Resource Information Site.
