VCU and Richmond police with the help of the FBI conducted sweeps on the Monroe Park campus Monday Sept. 24 in response to a bomb threat received that morning. The police deemed the threat not credible but proceeded to search buildings on campus out of an “abundance of caution,” according to Executive Director of University Relations, Pam Lepley.
Lepley said a call was placed to a VCU building saying a bomb was in the building. VCU Police immediately called the FBI and Virginia State Police. Officials wouldn’t say to which building the call was made or when a final OK would be given to students.
Students were notified via text and email around 1 p.m. the day of the threat but no evacuations were ordered and classes continued as normal.
“You take a lot of (safety) risks when you evacuate a building,” Lepley said at a press conference.
