VCU redshirt-freshman got to experience the Final Four even though he didn't play. This year, he appears primed for the limelight

This we know: Redshirt-freshman Reco McCarter and true freshman Briante Weber have bunnies. By bunnies I mean bounce. And by bounce I mean a lot of it.

This we don’t know: how McCarter and Weber feel about it– at least for now. That’s because VCU’s men’s basketball program has a rule in which a player can’t be interviewed until he’s played at least one game for the team.

McCarter has yet to play a minute for the team but has been featured on various highlight reels on the internet for years which show him high-flying for dunks and fell-swooping for blocks. Weber will get his first opportunity to suit up for VCU when they face St. Francis Nov. 11, but has been highly touted as a energizer-bunny of a player with hawkish defensive skills and explosive leaping ability.

So at today’s men’s basketball media day, we decided to pose the question of which player has more audacious athleticism on sophomore shooting guard Rob Brandenberg who, for whatever reason, we figured might be in the know.

“The highlight tapes are ridiculous, it’s even more crazy when you’re on the court, you can see him almost get his head to the rim when he’s dunking,” Brandenberg said of McCarter. “He’s very versatile, he can rebound and shoot; he’s a 6-6 guard that can play the 2 and 3 and maybe even a bit of 4 if coach calls his number at that position, so he’ll definitely fun to watch.”

He had high marks for Weber as well.

“Briante he can really jump; he’s got a knack for making plays with his quickness and his hands and his defense is unbelievable,” Brandenberg said. “It seems like he’s never slowing down so he’ll definitely be great for the (Havoc) style of play.”

And who does Brandenberg have as the winner?

“Briante has the higher vertical but I’d have to say Reco,” Brandenberg said, smiling. “I’ve seen him do some crazy things.”
