New faces: field hockey

Amber Jones, midfielder/forward
As a team captain her senior year, Jones tallied 31 points, 11 goals and nine assists. The Virginia Beach native was listed First Team All-Beach District as well as being named three-time National Futures Championship pick.
Nicola Breeman, midfielder
Breeman enters VCU with a litany of international experience. Hailing from Belgium, she played for the Royal Antwerp Ladies 1 Hockey Club and recently competed in the European Cup.
Marissa Betkowski, goalkeeper
As a senior, Betkowski, alongside fellow VCU classmate Kendall Combs, helped Lakeland (Suffolk, Va.) notch a perfect 24-0 record. She posted 19 shutouts her senior year to bring her career total to 46.
Kacie Yang, midfielder
Stepping into a starting role in her first year at VCU, Yang is starting to comprehend the transition from high school to college. In her senior year, she helped Grafton (Yorktown, Va.) to a 2010 district championship and a third-place finish in the region and state quarterfinals.
Kendall Combs, forward/midfielder/defense
In Sunday’s game against Appalachian State, Combs didn’t hesitate to make a lasting first impression by notching two goals in just her second collegiate appearance. Combs is known for her ability to be a spark plug and will be a starter on VCU’s squad this season.
Stacey Farr, midfielder/forward
A native of British Columbia, Farr helped her high school team to an undefeated 25-0 season her senior year along with achieving the AAA Provincial Championship behind the Canadian national.
