Women’s basketball crushes Northeastern 82-55

With VCU’s women’s basketball team set to face two of the top three teams in the CAA in the next 10 days, the Rams need every win they can get heading into the meat of their schedule.
They easily got one Sunday.
True to form, junior forward Courtney Hurt poured in a game-high 21 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds – taking her double-double tally to a nation-best 17 – as VCU crushed Northeastern 82-55.
Redshirt-junior guard Andrea Barbour scored 15 points. Junior guard Jennifer Lane dished out a career-high 11 assists and sophomore guard Sonia Johnson added 16 points and five rebounds.
The victory enhances the Rams’ record to 13-8 overall and 8-3 in the CAA, leaving the team all alone in fourth place. Fifth-place Drexel is two games behind while the two teams ahead of the Rams both are 9-2. Northeastern, on the other hand, dropped to 3-8 in conference play after losing their third-straight game. The Huskies are in 10th place in the 12-team league.
