VCU students and other Fan dwellers need no longer despair at the considerable commute to Diversity Thrift, Richmond’s favorite rainbow-bedecked bargain store, on Sherwood Avenue near the Diamond.

This Saturday at 11 a.m., the Gay Community Center of Richmond celebrates the grand opening of Diversity Thrift 2, Diversity Thrift’s offshoot location at 2219 West Main St. – in the heart of the Fan district between Shields and Strawberry, and most importantly, a cakewalk from the VCU campus.

DT2 will still carry what the original store offers – clothes, house wares, music and books. The new store will also feature free WiFi access.

DT2 will accept small donations, but large donations still need to be arranged through the original store on Sherwood Avenue. The first Diversity Thrift will also handle most sales dealing with large items.

Profit generated by Diversity Thrift benefit Richmond’s LGBT community through the Gay Community Center of Richmond (GCCR). It is reported that Diversity Thrift accounts for almost 50% of the GCCR’s operating revenue.
