A University Safety Forum will be held Thursday in the Harris Hall auditorium from 7-8:30 p.m.

According to Charles Klink, the committee chair of the University Safety Committee, forum attendees will have the opportunity to meet VCU Chief of Police John Venuti and discuss safety issues with Venuti and other university administrators.

“Administrators can share information but people – if they have questions or concerns – can articulate those,” Klink said.

The committee hosts two forums each year: one in the fall and spring semesters. Klink said last fall’s forum was smaller, but he expects the spring forum to have a higher turnout.

“If we had two people come we’d feel good about it–if they had concerns or questions,” Klink said.

According to the University Safety Committee Web site, the committee uses education to prevent violence and works consistently with other university organizations.

The Web site also states committee members are appointed by the Provost and serve two-year terms.

Committee members include students and faculty members from the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Services, VCU Police, Human Resources, Residential Life and Housing, Staff Senate, Faculty Senate, student governments, the student body and other university organizations.
