Volcanoes explode the earth quakes and crust shifts in the disaster-film “2012,” but all of the apocalyptic mishmash leads to the same end: airplanes barely escaping plume clouds and limousines (or R.V.s) evading fiery deaths.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone familiar with Roland Emmerich’s filmography. He is, after all, the director behind “Independence Day” and “The Day After Tomorrow,” both of which reveled in near misses and supposed heart-pounding action.
