After two years of the super-liberal and super-conservative political groups that don’t know or care to know anything about football throwing in their two cents, the Michael Vick saga finally comes to an end for all intents and purposes this weekend.
Vick, if you don’t know, served almost two years in prison on charges of managing a dog fighting ring and now, after serving a three-game suspension, will play this Sunday.
The issue of whether dog fighting is right or wrong is not the argument-it never was. I would say most can agree this is an immoral and evil practice.
The argument is whether Vick should be playing.
Despite the fact Vick has paid his debt to society in prison and paid his debt to the NFL by serving his suspension, there are still people who believe the quarterback should not be on a football field ever again.
I certainly am not one of those people.
In fact, I think those people are idiots who need to shut up and go back to worrying about themselves.
It’s not like Vick skated by. The man served his time in prison, and since being out has done everything he can possibly do to show the world that he is remorseful, that he wants to reform himself, and that dog fighting is wrong.
What these idiots tell me is they are never willing to forgive someone who messed up. That, of course, not only makes them idiots, but also makes them hypocrites because I can also say with confidence that the vast majority of the population, including yours truly, has done something we probably shouldn’t have done and needed forgiveness for it.
What it tells me is that people don’t think Michael Vick is remorseful enough.
What a ridiculous stance to take. Who are you to become the judge, jury and executioner for any human being?
So for all the people who are thinking about picketing the Eagles this weekend or simply continuing to root against Vick for this atrocity, I ask you to go back to worrying about other things in the world.
There are a lot more problems and a lot more disgusting acts that your do-good attitude could go toward preventing or reforming.
For football fans and those who worry about real problems, enjoy your football this weekend. Enjoy it because it provides what sports always provide: a distraction from the terrible things and stupid people that are in the world today.
