Coming off a summer movie season that saw more explosive fare than usual, the fall slate seeks to calm things down a bit. Not only will these films be clamoring for your well-earned dough, they’ll be trying for a crack at the Academy’s new best picture system, which will allow for 10 films this year instead of five. Heavier, special-effect-driven films will be released, too, with “2012” coming in November and “Avatar” in December.
Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer prize-winning “The Road” finally gets a release after three date changes going all the way back to last November. 3D filming also continues its rise in popularity, with no less than four movies slated for release in IMAX 3-D.
