The snowstorm that hit Richmond March 2-3 was not only the biggest to hit the area in seven years, it was the largest March snowfall in 29 years. VCU was closed March 3, after initially delaying opening until 11 a.m.
According to the VCU office closing policy, “The decision to close due to inclement weather or emergency conditions is made by the President of Virginia Commonwealth University. The president will consult with senior management to recommend a course of action.”
The storm left as much as 10 inches in some areas late March 2 through midday March 3, which not only closed schools and caused serious problems on area roads, but also left more than 100,000 people without power.
To top off the extreme weather, the snow was followed by two consecutive days of record-breaking low temperatures. The forecast for the upcoming weekend includes temperatures in the mid-70s.
