Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
Actually, let me start that again.
Dear Conservative CryBaby Dennis Lennox,
Hi. How are you? It sounds like you’re a little stressed out, but I’m writing here to alleviate some of your concerns about Mike Rao and VCU. You see, Virginia voted liberal this term.
Richmond is the center of that liberal swing in Virginia thanks in part to the huge turnout of African-Americans to the polls this past year. Don’t get me wrong, I voted for McCain, but don’t throw me in your ultra-conservative boat just yet.
Let me tell you a little bit about VCU. It’s currently the biggest college in Virginia, so it’s similar in size to Central Michigan (by the way … you can’t be CMU, that’s Carnegie Mellon). We were both established around the same time, both public universities, both have similar colors. That’s where the similarities end.
VCU is a liberal arts school. The arts school here accounts for a significant portion of the university. Think Brooklyn, but in the South. As such, we’re much more inclined to have neo-Nazis, commies, sycophants, bisexuals and anarchists come to the school as much as possible.
The counterculture of the United States can teach you much more about the government than someone like Joe Wilson, taken with a grain of salt. This goes for student organizations based on religions as well. Prohibiting someone from joining a club or organization is limiting students’ rights, not the other way around. Do you really believe that a policy based on student equality isn’t fair?
What I’m trying to say is that you have a very skewed ideal of what Richmond, Va. is all about. Thank God Mike Rao got out of there before he lost his ambition. Thank you, Michigan!
Sincerely,
Mike Garrett,
