The Rome Report
After months of college football, I have the same question that I had before the season started: Who is the best team in the country? Fans of the Florida Gators will say they are and they have a 24-14 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the SCS title game to prove it.
Rams finish off big week, beat Hofstra
It has been an interesting week for the VCU men’s basketball team. After a surprising loss at Delaware Jan. 3, the Rams have stormed back into the CAA picture after winning three in a row, and winning those games by an average of 22 points.
The third and final victory came on Saturday as VCU (11-5, 4-1) pulled away from Hofstra, winning 68-60.
McCoy Tyner: 70 and kickin’
Legendary jazz pianist and composer McCoy Tyner released his 82nd album as a bandleader last month. Titled “Guitars,” the album teems with unparalleled talent and ingenuity.
Backed up by the monumental rhythm section of Ron Carter on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums, one would think the personnel couldn’t get any better-think again.
Cuppa more, please
Fine china and Victorian décor encompassed the charm of Southern Virginia as I walked into Cuppa Tea Company-a tearoom located on Main and Morris Streets.
