A pre-trial for VCU chief of police William B. Fuller took place Thursday afternoon at Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Fuller could only shake his head as Judge Robbins announced Fuller’s four felony charges, including lascivious intent and use of a communication system to solicit sex from a minor under the age of 15. Fuller was broadcasted on a screen from Chesterfield Jail, where he is being held without bond.

Chesterfield county police started investigating Fuller’s online activity Jan. 10 after he was discovered chatting, under the screen name ‘hotcop2006’, with an undercover police official posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Fuller, 50, was arrested last night in his home on the 9000 block of Meadowfield Court in Henrico County.

“There is nothing particularly different about this one (case),” said prosecuting attorney David Rigler. Rigler estimates that between 25 and 30 people are arrested annually for similar offenses. The only difference with this case, said Rigler, is who he is. Fuller is unmarried and lives alone.

Fuller has been placed on administrative leave without pay. According to a VCU Alert released today by President Eugene Trani, Captain Carlton Edwards has been named acting Chief. The trial date is scheduled for April 2 at 11 a.m.
