The Business and Engineering Career Center has created an online résumé database for all Business and Engineering alumni. The Web site only has been in operation since Jan. 23.
Designed by Spinnaker Edge consulting, the site offers alumni a place to post their résumés and employers a place to find qualified alumni for job openings. The Web site was funded by The Business and Engineering alumni association.
The main difference between this site and the RamsRecruiting site offered by the VCU University Career Center is that RamsRecruiting provides entry-level job openings aimed at recent college graduates. The new Web site is geared towards providing unemployed graduates with networking and employment opportunities.
Mike Eisenman, director of the Business and Engineering Career Center, said that interest in the project rose after the company Qimonda announced layoffs of at least 1,200 people this past November.
“Qimonda and its predecessors have hired more of our engineering graduates than any singular company,” Eisenman said.
According to Eisenman, there have been about 30 VCU alumni who have worked at Qimonda. Eisenman said the people who have been impacted by layoffs at Qimonda, as well as other companies, have been eager to see this project come through. Tom Fletcher, a VCU alumnus, said he is excited about the new recruiting Web site.
“VCU does a great job (with alumni), this is just another thing,” Fletcher said. “I think the key is how the Web site is going to be advertised.”
Eisenman said the public relations office at VCU is working to forward all information concerning the Web site to all alumni associations at VCU. The goal is to create a network within the VCU alumni, Eisenman said. He said he hopes alumni will help find jobs for those in the network and encourage employers to use the site as a resource for prospective employees.
“We see it as a service to our alumni,” Eisenman said. “They (alumni) will think better of VCU down the road.”
