6 states to cooperate on improving I-81 corridor

Virginia, West Virginia and four other states have agreed to cooperate in planning for rail and highway improvements along the Interstate 81 corridor.

The Virginia Department of Transportation announced Friday that Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York signed a memorandum of understanding to work together.

Third-party voter-registration drives investigated

The State Board of Elections is investigating third-party voter drives after election officials across Virginia have raised concerns that such groups may have failed to deliver registration forms to the board.

Board officials said in a release Friday that potential voters may have lost the chance to cast their ballots on Tuesday because their registrations weren’t turned in on time.

VCU receives grant for minority disability research

The VCU School of Allied Health Professions has received a five-year National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research grant of $1.8 million.

The grant will be used to identify and evaluate current practices and methods in the conduct of minority disability research and to begin to increase capacity in this area.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Senior Francesca Gioeli (New York /Brooklyn Tech) earned the CAA Co-Player of the Week award for her play in the 2-1 overtime win over James Madison last Thursday. In her last game for the Rams, Gioeli scored three points, including the game-winning goal.

Pick’em Week Ten

With every election, there comes a changing of the guard; the same can be said with our football pick’em. After going 13-7, including 8-2 in the NFL, Associate Sports Editor Jerome Foster is now tied for the lead with Alex Dynan, who finished 11-9. Executive Editor Matt Doyon finished 10-10 to fall four games behind and Sports Editor Jonathan Howard is now in danger of having a losing record after finishing 8-12.

Yoann Gourcuff scored in the sixth minute but Cluj fired back within three minutes thanks to Ricardo Dani. Geralod Wendel sealed the victory for Bordeaux at the end of the first half with an amazing free kick.

Some would argue that the Georgia Bulldogs football team didn’t show up last week in the team’s 49-10 defeat at the hands of the Florida Gators in the rivalry named the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. I, however, believe that the Bulldogs did in fact show up to the party . but forgot about the game afterward.

After an upset loss to William and Mary in the CAA Tournament, the Rams did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Instead the Rams received a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to UAB. After being picked to finish, first the Rams are expected to win the league title.
