Florida Air Academy (Melbourne, Fla.) point guard Ben Eblen became the first member of the 2012 class after signing his Letter of Intent during the early signing period on Friday. The 6’0 185 guard averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists during his junior season.

Rams knock off Bulldogs in season opener
After a disappointing performance in their final exhibition game against Virginia State, the VCU Rams were looking for a good start to the regular season. Mission accomplished.
Junior T.J. Gwynn (Burlington, N.C./Cummings) scored 20 points-14 in the first half-and the VCU defense forced 23 turnovers in an 82-59 victory over The Citadel on Sunday evening at the Siegel Center.

I want to be in a (rock) band
My musical inclination is limited to my four years of piano lessons and recitals. My parents had big dreams, but sadly I did not-and I decided it was much more important to watch Saturday morning television than learn how to play “Chopin.” My passion for music dwindled to me trying half-heartedly to play my old guitar-then, something big and astounding happened that brought it all back: Rock Band.
New program to improve academic advising
The heavy load of freshmen on academic advisers in the University College is growing. The number of freshmen enrolled in 2008 increased by more than half in the past 10 years, according to the VCU Center for Institutional Effectiveness.
“They can have anywhere from 300 to 400 people to advise in a semester,” said Stephanie Lynch, the Student Government Association’s chair of academic affairs.
Groups tackle rights of transgendered at VCU
For many students, college is a time of newfound freedom and expression – a chance to be themselves. For transgendered students, being open about sexuality is not easy.
Despite providing protections to individuals based on their sexuality, VCU does not specifically protect its transgendered population under its Non-Discrimination Policy.
Health care: Change for the future
On Jan. 20, Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States. As his campaign has been saying for the past two years, change is in store. What kind of change is yet to be determined.
Health care is expected to change under President-elect Obama’s administration.
