Yoann Gourcuff scored in the sixth minute but Cluj fired back within three minutes thanks to Ricardo Dani. Geralod Wendel sealed the victory for Bordeaux at the end of the first half with an amazing free kick.

After a shaky start, Roma scored first through Christian Panucci. After the break, Roma was playing even better, scoring twice thanks to Mirko Vucinic. Although skipper John Terry put one away for the blues, Deco ended up getting a red card thanks to poor reffing.

GROUP B

Internazionale (2-2-0) at Anorthosis (1-2-1)

Mario Balotelli scooped up a Zlatan Ibrahimovic free kick to put Inter up early on. Cedric Bardon ended up responding for Anorthosis after some horrendous defending on the Italian side. The trend played in Anorthosis’ favor as two more of their goals undeservedly snuck in.

Panathinaikos (1-1-2) at Bremen (0-3-1)
0-3

Werder Bremen can’t win at home and they managed to get an own-goal. Wow.

GROUP C

Shakhtar (1-0-3) at Sporting Lisbon (3-0-1)
0-1

Derlei gave Sporting the only goal of the match.

Basel (0-1-3) at Barcelona (3-1-0)

Although it started off slowly, Barcelona eventually scored through the combined brilliance of Lionel Messi and Thierry Henri. Somehow, Basel scored in the final minutes to get their first point in the group stage.

GROUP D

Atlético de Madrid (2-2-0) at Liverpool (2-2-0)
1-1

While both teams had early chances, it was Atlético who got the first goal via Maxi Rodriguez. Thought the Spaniards should’ve walked away with the victory, a trademark Steven Gerrard dive in the last minute of play resulted in highway robbery for Atlético.

PSV Eindhoven (1-0-3) at Marseille (1-0-3)
0-3

Bacary Koné scored at the half-hour mark. It didn’t take long for the Dutch side to fall apart after that. Mamadou Niang managed to put two more past the keeper, getting Marseille its first three points.

GROUP E

Villareal (2-2-0) at Aalborg (0-2-2)
2-2

Giuseppe Rossi scored just before the half for the yellow submarine but Jeppe Kurth leveled for Aalborg after the break. Guillermo Franco responded for the Spanish side minutes later. But the Danes weren’t done as Anders Due curled in a supurb free kick.

Manchester United (2-2-0) at Celtic (0-2-2)

Celtic’s Scott McDonald caused the crowd at Glasgow’s Parkhead Stadium to go wild after a fine 13th minute finish. After dominating the second half, United finally saved the game when Ryan Giggs put away a deflected shot by Christiano Ronaldo.

GROUP F

Bayern Munich (2-2-0) at Fiorentina (0-3-1)
1-1

Adrian Mutu put away a fine cross from Luciano Zauri in the 11th minute to put Fiorentina up. But Franck Ribery eventually helped Bayern draw level after deflecting a shot off teammate Tim Borowski.

Steaua Bucuresti (0-1-3) at Lyonnais (2-2-0)
0-2

Juninho and Anthony Reveillere put the French side through at home. No surprises here.

GROUP G

Fenerbahce (0-2-2) at Arsenal (2-2-0)
0-0

Though Arsenal dominated play, the gunners couldn’t put anything away.

Porto (2-0-2) at Dynamo Kyiv (1-2-1)
2-1

Down 1-0 at the beginning of the game, Porto eventually began to wear down Kyiv. Lucho Gonzalez scored in the final minutes for the win. The Argentine proceeded to rip his shirt off, received his second yellow card and marched off the field.

GROUP H

Zenit St. Petersburg (1-1-2) at BATE Borisov (0-2-2)
2-0

Pavel Pogrebniak put Zenit on the board first through a fine strike from inside the box. Miguel Danny sealed the deal with a terrific solo run into the back of the net.

Juventus (3-1-0) at Real Madrid (2-0-2)
2-0

Alessandro Del Piero picked up two goals to accentuate Real’s recent poor form.
