Some would argue that the Georgia Bulldogs football team didn’t show up last week in the team’s 49-10 defeat at the hands of the Florida Gators in the rivalry named the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Some would argue that the Georgia Bulldogs football team didn’t show up last week in the team’s 49-10 defeat at the hands of the Florida Gators in the rivalry named the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. I, however, believe that the Bulldogs did in fact show up to the party . but forgot about the game afterward. Besides being dead drunk, how else do you explain the nation’s No. 6 team and preseason No. 1 losing to a rival by 39 points? At least the Gators showed up, because otherwise the fine folks who paid a lot of money to watch the game would have sat in the stands for the same thing that can often be seen at Roxy on Saturday nights-you know what I’m talking about. In all seriousness, I’m not sure whether this means that Florida is that good, if Georgia is severely overrated, or both. Obviously the Gators have talent-Urban Meyer and Co. has a national title to prove it. However, looking at the Bulldogs’ schedule, perhaps they aren’t as good as they seem. Georgia has given up a total of 142 points in four games against ranked opponents-more than five touchdowns per game. Good teams don’t give up 35 points per game-period.

I had to control myself from falling on the floor laughing (or ROFLMAO in Internet speak) when I read Steve Spurrier’s comments regarding the soon-to-be vacant coaching position at Tennessee. The South Carolina head coach said that he might have been interested in it had it been available five years ago. Really, Steve? Are you sure? Are you not the same guy who used to run up the score on the Volunteers while at Florida and said you could not spell Citrus (as in the Citrus Bowl) without U-T? What made it worse for me was that he went on to say that South Carolina would be his last job. Was there ever a doubt?

NBA

At first I was cynical, but now I’ve got the feeling that Allen Iverson in Detroit will end up as a great move. Chauncey Billups was a great point guard for the Pistons, but Iverson will give the team a bigger scoring option in the backcourt as well as a better ability to push the tempo. Conversely, I think Billup also will fit extremely well in Denver. The Nuggets have enough scoring power with Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith on the wings and Billups will do a great job spreading the ball to them. He won’t take the same number of shots that Iverson took, which should open up Anthony’s scoring numbers even more.
