Bayern sits comfortably atop its group thanks to goals from Zé Roberto, Miroslav Klose and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Olympique Lyonnais 5, Steaua Bucuresti 3

Steaua was up by two in the 11th minute thanks to Arthuro Henrique and Ovidiu Petre. Then the French side leveled with goals from Abdul Kader Keita and Karim Benzema. Petre got his second goal at the half but two goals from Fred and another from Benzema proved too much for the Romanians.

Arsenal 5, Fenerbahce 2

Emmanuel Adebayor and Theo Walcott opened the scoring early on with two goals within a minute of each other. Mikael Silvestre turned the ball into his own net to give Fener a shot but Alex Song struck back early in the second half. Danny Guiza hit back for the Turkish side but Aaron Ramsey tapped in a late fifth goal.

Dynamo Kyiv 1, Porto 0

Olexandr Aliyev had a brilliant strike on a set piece in the 27th minute. Many Porto households likely saw drunken angry fathers and sons return home after a dismal performance by their team on home soil.

BATE Borisov 1, Zenit St. Petersburg 1

The Russians certainly expected to pull away with three points, but the Belarussians surprised the host thanks to a goal from Pavel Nekhaychek. Zenit survived thanks to a sweet break away from Fatih Tekke.

Real Madrid 1, Juventus 2

Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s late strike was not enough to cancel out the early efforts of Alessandro Del Piero and Amauri.

CFR Cluj 0, Girondins
de Bordeaux 1

Be glad you didn’t watch this pain-pill of a match. The only goal came late in the second half from Cluj’s Portuguese captain Ricardo Cadú, who put the ball into his own net under no pressure, giving Bordeaux their first points in the group stage.

Roma 0, Chelsea 1

Roma’s keeper Doni had an amazing game but couldn’t hold off the relentlessness of the Chelsea attack as skipper John Terry eventually found the back of the net off a fine cross from Frank Lampard.

Anorthosis 0, Internazionale Milano 1

Maicon to Adriano for a fabulous Brazilian connection saw the Italian side go through.

Per Mertesacker scored first but Panathinaikos’ Evangelos Mantzios leveled in the first and appeared to steal the game with a controversial goal in the second half but Hugo Almeida nailed a header for the Germans after some shoddy defending.

Brazilian Liedson found the back of the net after a sweet back heel from fellow countryman Derlei.

Liverpool 1, Atletico de Madrid 1

Simao pulled a late goal out of the hat to cancel out Robbie Keane’s early goal. Simao and Yossi Benayoun both had frustrating chances.

Olympique de Marseille 0, PSV Eindhoven 2

Two second-half goals from Danny Koevermans earned PSV its first points in the group.
