COLLEGE FOOTBALL
What a Saturday! The college football schedule was filled with great games such as Oklahoma vs. Texas, Florida vs. LSU and Missouri vs. Oklahoma State. They provided surprises that I didn’t see coming.
In the Oklahoma-Texas game, Texas surprised me with the way they just kept coming back at Oklahoma. Nothing the Sooners did could keep the Longhorns at bay. Oklahoma twice had a lead of 11 points and both times Texas made big plays to stay in the game and eventually upset the top-ranked Sooners. Texas showed the rest of the country that it is indeed one of the best teams in college football.
In the Florida-LSU game, Florida surprised me by how explosive its offense could be against one of the best defenses in the country. I knew that Florida had a great offense powered by quarterback Tim Tebow and receiver Percy Harvin, but LSU has been known for its defense since Nick Saban was the coach. Florida just went through the LSU defense like a hot knife through butter. I guess next year LSU will wait until after the game before talking smack about Tim Tebow.
In the Missouri-Oklahoma State game, Oklahoma State surprised me and showed me that it was for real. The Cowboys had not beaten anyone of significance before they defeated Missouri. Not only did they beat Missouri, they shut down the high-octane offense of the Tigers. Oklahoma State forced Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel into throwing three interceptions and proved it can play with anyone in the country.
NFL
Last week, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, reportedly got into a fight with his bodyguard. The bodyguard was hired by the Cowboys to make sure that Jones stayed out of trouble so he could stay on the field. People who follow the NFL know that Jones has had trouble staying out of trouble. This has been a problem for him since he was playing ball at West Virginia. His trouble led to him being suspended all of last season by commissioner Roger Goodell. When Goddell reinstated him before the season started, Goddell told him that he needed to keep out of trouble or he would face disciplinary action.
The “Pacman” needs to stay out of trouble if he wants to keep himself on the field. He has an opportunity that many people would love to have. All Jones has to do is stay clear of trouble and make good decisions. If you ask me, that doesn’t seem to be real hard to do, especially when his job and millions of dollars are on the line. Jones cannot put himself in bad positions because the media is ready to report on any slip-up that Jones has.
Goddell has said the NFL will conduct an investigation to see what happened with Jones and his bodyguard. It doesn’t sound like Jones will be punished harshly for this latest incident, if he is punished at all. But Jones better not push his luck. His next incident might be his last.
