Facebook changes site design
The online social networking site Facebook.com is in the process of changing designs. For the past few weeks, there has been an option on the Web site to switch to the new Facebook in order to ease users into the change. This past week, however, the switch is becoming mandatory.
Trash taints park’s natural beauty
Though summer is coming to an end, many people seeking reprieve from the concrete and heat head to Belle Isle and the James River Park System. Along with visitors comes trash and broken glass, which pose a risk to both people and the ecosystem.
Belle Isle, located on the James River, is a popular destination for many Richmond residents looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the river.
Applications for SGA elections due soon

DU adds classroom locks to help fend off shooters
The University of Denver has installed latches on the doors to nearly every classroom so they can be quickly locked from the inside in the event of a campus shooting.
Don Enloe, director of campus safety, said Tuesday the latches were installed over the summer.
Former U of R coach faces child porn charge
The former men’s tennis coach at the University of Richmond has been indicted on one count of receiving child pornography.
Federal prosecutors said a grand jury indicted 47-year-old Steven Gerstenfeld on Tuesday. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Panel named to seek next VCU president
The 17 members of a search committee have been named to find a successor to Eugene P. Trani as president of VCU.
The appointments announced Wednesday include faculty members, Board of Visitors members, staff and students.
Trani announced in August he was retiring in 2009 as president of Virginia’s largest public university and as chair of the VCU Health System.

Stephen Mutisya (Machakos, Kenya) finished fifth in the Navy Invitational 8K run with a time of 25:09.10 to help VCU to a fifth place finish in the 14-team event Saturday. Senior Jay Wyss (Richmond/J.R. Tucker) and junior Piotr Dyras (Jaslo, Poland) also finished in the top 25, finishing 13th and 23rd with times of 25:35.

Some players just can’t get it right. Last Wednesday, Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Ed Johnson was caught speeding while in possession of marijuana. When I hear stories like this, a couple things come to mind. First, why do some athletes feel the need to smoke weed? Some athletes make more money in a year than some of us will make in our lifetimes.
Marle’s hat trick enough as Rams defeat Penn
Sophomore Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, The Netherlands/Odulphus Lyceum) scored all three of VCU’s goals in a 3-1 victory over the Pennsylvania Quakers this past Sunday afternoon. The victory improved VCU’s season record to 4-2. Her twin sister, sophomore Flore van Dessel (Oisterwijik, The Netherlands/Odulphus Lyceum) assisted on two of the goals.
