Georgia-Russia conflict ignites war talk
VCU students expressed their concerns about the Georgia-Russia situation at a forum held Thursday, Aug. 28, by the International Students for Social Equality.
“Countries should be able to declare their independence and rights accordingly,” a student said at the forum in regard to what she said is the U.
Growing skate culture reflected in film
What began as a joke among friends became a full-length film that debuted to a packed theater this past Friday at the Byrd Theatre in Carytown.

Grad students win Kaiser award
VCU graduate students Patrice Baltimore and Maria James were awarded the Inez Kaiser Award for Graduate Students of Color by the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Baltimore and James are both pursuing a master’s degree in strategic public relations.
Report released about improper degree
In a report to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-the regional accrediting agency investigating the improperly awarded degree given to former Police Chief Rodney Monroe-VCU said it discovered university employees made 37 exceptions to routine processing and documentation requirements.
Hanna linked to three deaths
Gov. Timothy M. Kaine says three traffic deaths on Virginia roads have been linked to Tropical Storm Hanna. The deaths involved two wrecks in Chesterfield County caused by heavy rain. Overall, Kaine said the state was prepared for more severe weather than Hanna delivered.
Hanna forces NASCAR postponement
Steady rain that began Friday night and expectations it would continue through Saturday with Tropical Storm Hanna moving in forced NASCAR to postpone Saturday night’s Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway. The Chevrolet 400, which finalized the field of 12 drivers who will be eligible to compete for the 2008 series championship, was rescheduled for 1 p.
