Drought over in parts of Virginia

Some parts of Virginia are now drought-free thanks to Tropical Storm Hanna.

Before the storm rolled through the state this past week, nearly all of Virginia was suffering from drought or abnormally dry conditions.

The U.S. Drought Monitor, a weekly report by federal and academic scientists, now says moisture in about half of Virginia is normal.

Hanna dropped 2 to 6 inches of rain on central Virginia. Part of Prince William County in northern Virginia received more than 8 inches.

Drought or dryness persists in extreme southern Virginia, Hampton Roads and much of western and southwestern Virginia.
