The ship was ordered to Haiti from Colombia Friday. The Kearsarge has delivered to Haiti 141 metric tons of supplies, such as flour, rice and beans and 750 gallons of water.
Crew members have gone ashore in the capital, Port au Prince, to deliver supplies. The Kearsarge’s commanding officer, Capt. Walt Towns, said Wednesday the relief effort is moving into remote areas.
Haiti has been hit by four tropical storms in less than one month.
Officials say at least 331 people have been killed in the desperately poor Caribbean nation.
