MEN’S BASKETBALL
VCU will play in the inaugural Cancun Challenge, which begins Nov. 16 and ends Thanksgiving weekend. Because VCU has been selected as one of the “host” teams, the Rams will play two games at home before they leave for Mexico. The Rams will play the Citadel at the Stuart C. Siegel Center Nov. 16, followed by a game with South Dakota State Nov. 19. When the teams arrive in Cancun, they will be placed into two pools of competition. Other teams competing include Central Arkansas, Grambling, Morehead State, Vanderbilt, Drake, New Mexico and a team to be named later.
TENNIS
The men’s and women’s tennis teams were recognized as All-Academic Teams by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. A team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 to receive an all-academic award. Four Rams were named scholar athletes-Alex Israel and Emil Lindgren from the men’s team and Viktoria Konsantinova and Tatsiana Uvarova from the women’s team. To be named a scholar athlete, the player must be a varsity-letter winner, have a grade point average of 3.50 for the current academic year and be enrolled for at least two semesters.
