FIELD HOCKEY

In their first live action against an opponent, the Rams toppled the Radford Highlanders in a Saturday afternoon scrimmage, 5-0. Alaina Vernetti (Fredericksburg/Massaponax), Rosan van Eijkelenburg (Middelburg, Holland/Nehalennia stedelijk scholengemeenschap), Lindsay Shacklette (Fredericksburg/Stafford), Nikki Hollibaugh (Spotsylvania/Massaponax) and Lindsay Jones (Springfield/West Springfield) all scored for VCU while Jones and Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, The Netherlands/Odulphus Lyceum) added two assists.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Rams finished up their exhibition schedule Friday, a 1-1 draw with Virginia Tech. VCU’s Otavio De Luca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Joao Paulo) scored on a free kick in the 65th minute, but Terry Boland answered in the 73rd minute with an unassisted goal off of a steal. VCU goalie Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge/Osbourn Park) made three saves in the contest.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Head coach Julian Spooner added another runner to his roster for 2008-2009-an Olympian. Manuel Reynaert (Saint-Pol-sur-Mer, France) was on the French 4-X-100 meter-relay squad that just missed qualifying for the finals of this year’s Olympics in Beijing.
