Friday’s game against Georgetown at Sports Backers
Stadium was played in three 30-minute periods, as
opposed to the usual two 45-minute halves. VCU’s
roster was depleted with so many injuries, the
coaches from each school chose to play the game
in this manner.
VCU battled Georgetown in the run of play, but the
Hoyas were able to capitalize on two set pieces-in
part because of the lack of substitutes available to
the Rams. The game was matched evenly for the
first two periods, but then things seemed to unravel
for the Rams.
While Georgetown was constantly subbing players
in and out, VCU had many of the same players in
the whole game.
The game was sloppy throughout but was more
settled toward the end. The Rams were able to get
some shots on goal but couldn’t convert any of those
opportunities into a win.
VCU’s lone highlight of the game was by Junior
Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill), who
made a clutch defensive stop on a penalty kick. The
Rams return to action against VCU Alumni this
Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sports Backers Stadium.
