WORLD LES CAYES, Haiti – Thousands of Haitians sought shelter in schoolhouses Saturday as the death toll from Tropical Storm Noel rose to 143 across the Caribbean. Heavy rains continued to pound Haiti, leaving U.N. and Haitian officials temporarily stranded as they toured Haiti’s flooded southern peninsula.

GOLF Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/The Baldwin School) shot an even par 72 on Sunday to finish 20th at the Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington in Wilmington, N.C. Campos led the Rams to an 11th-place finish out of 12 participating teams. Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg/Blacksburg) finished in 26th at 10-over, while Vincent Nadeau (Penn Hook/Purdue) finished 29th at 11-over.

Women’s basketball preview

Men’s basketball preview
Six players from last year’s team, which won 28 games en route to the CAA title and a win over Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, return to the Rams. This year, VCU is expected to finish second in the CAA behind rival George Mason.
