The Rams won their sixth straight
match Thursday, 2-1, at James
Madison. The Dukes got on the
board first with a 20th-minute goal
from C.J. Sapong, but the Rams
answered with a goal from senior
Sven Meusch (Cologne, Germany)
six minutes later. Junior Gerson
Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/E.E.
Ruth Cabral Troncarelli) scored the
game-winning goal on a penalty
kick in the 64th minute. The win
improves the team’s record 11-5-2
overall and 7-4 in conference play.
VCU will host Northeastern in the
CAA Tournament quarterfinals on
Tuesday at 7 p.m.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Seven Rams players were placed
on All-CAA teams last Thursday
night, as announced at the league
banquet. Defenseman Bridgit Cooley
(Clifton/Seton School) was named
first-team All-CAA, while Megan
Flanagan (Franktown, Colo./Ponderosa),
Stephanie Power (Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia/Dartmouth) and Samara
Stephen-Dowd (Vienna/Oakton)
were named to the second team.
Jasmine Riley (Arlington/Wakefield)
and Myriam Bouchard (Quebec,
Canada/Cardinal Roy) were named
to the third team, while Laurel Pastor
(Springfield/West Springfield) was
named to the all-rookie team.
VOLLEYBALL
After winning the first game
against visiting Delaware, VCU
dropped the following three on Friday
to end its season of conference
play. Junior Elisa Kuehnel (Dresden,
Germany/Sportsgymnasium) led the
Rams with 14 kills, while freshman
Belinda Behncke-Biney (Hamburg,
Germany/Gymnasium Marienthal)
had 10. Junior libero Laryssa
Goncalves (Curitiba, Brazil/Cologio
Dom Bosco) had a match-high 25
digs. The
The Rams did not qualify for
the CAA Tournament after going
6-8 in the conference and 11-19
overall. They will finish their
season with matches against Albany,
Georgetown and Long Island on
Nov. 23 and Nov. 24 in the VCU
Thanksgiving Tournament.
