MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams closed out their exhibition
schedule on Monday night with an
86-57 victory over Virginia Union in
the Ukrop’s City Challenge. Jamal
Shuler (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville)
scored 22 points to lead all scorers,
while Eric Maynor (Raeford, N.C./
Westover) added 16 points and six
assists, and Lance Kearse (Fort Myers,
Fla./Fort Myers) pitched in 11 points.
Freshman forward Larry Sanders (Fort
Pierce, Fla./Port St. Lucie) added five
blocks on defense. VCU opens the
regular season on Friday night with
Maryland Eastern-Shore at the Siegel
Center. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER

Junior goalie Andrew Dykstra
(Woodbridge/Osbourn Park) was
named to the Top Drawer Soccer
national team of the week after pitching
two shutouts last week. Dykstra made
two saves in a 6-0 win over UNC
Wilmington last Friday and three saves
in a 2-0 victory over Georgia State on
Sunday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Midfielder Megan Flanagan (Franktown,
Colo./Ponderosa) was named
CAA player of the week after her
performance in last week’s regularseason
finale against James Madison.
The junior scored a goal in the first half
and assisted June Hartman (Virginia
Beach/Tallwood) in the second half.

VOLLEYBALL

The Rams couldn’t follow up on last
Friday’s victory over William and Mary
and fell to American 3-0. The Eagles
won by scores of 30-25, 30-17 and
30-26 to improve to 22-7. VCU falls to
10-18 after the loss. Freshman Belinda
Behncke-Biney (Hamburg, Germany/
Gymnasium Marienthal) registered 10
kills in the loss.

Behncke-Biney was honored as CAA
rookie of the week on Monday after her
29-kill performance in the 3-2 win over
William and Mary.
