Health professional encourages students to get free flu shots

Better a sore arm than the flu? VCU students seem to
think so.

More than 100 VCU students have already visited
University Student Health Services to get their free flu shot
in preparation for the upcoming winter flu season.

University Student Health Services is offering free flu
shots to full-time students and flushots for $10 for part-time
students, since they are not charged the student health fee
with tuition.

“We do it every year to try to decrease the number of
flu cases,” said Jeannine Uzel, immunization director for
University Student Health Services. “I would encourage
(students) to come and get it. It’s free.”

Uzel encourages students to also check their account
on eServices and come to the VCU Student Health office
to follow up on any immunization holds that might keep
them from registering for next semester’s classes.

“You can also do a flu shot at the same time,” she said.
