LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Jeremy Kidd,

I have to applaud you on your outstanding
efforts to expose the real agenda
of the conservatives in America. They
are what is wrong with this country. I
mean, Ted Kennedy getting away with
murder simply because of his family’s
reputation and wealth … how classist is
that? And racist — they have that too.
Just look at West Virginia Sen. Robert
Byrd, the ex-Ku Klux Klan member.
What’s wrong with conservatives these
days? Oh, wait a minute! They’re not
conservatives; they’re liberals! Wow, isn’t
that something?

You see, there are bad apples on both
sides of the fence, but those bad apples
are not what define the agenda and
characteristics of their party or group.
Before you go around pointing your
finger and making such harsh accusations,
take a good look at the group you
identify yourself with. Just because Ted
Kennedy murdered someone does not
mean all liberals are going to get drunk
one night, kill somebody and use their
family’s name and money to cover it up.
(And please don’t try to argue that it was
an accident. Not even Ted believes that
anymore.) And not all liberals are going
to run out and join the KKK. Unlike
yourself, I’m clever enough to know the
difference between what defines a group
as a whole and what defines a person.

As far as VCU goes with its love and
appreciation of diversity, that means
bringing a conservative speaker every
once and a while. (Though I would
suggest someone like Sean Hannity or
Ann Coulter … now run along and dig
up the dirt on them, Mr. Kidd.) And
as far as “a slap in the face” goes, I’m
appalled that you don’t think Ward
Churchill is a “slap in the face” to the
Sept. 11 victims and their families. And
I would hardly consider bringing Ward
Churchill here an example of “intellectual
exploration.”

So you see, Mr. Kidd, there are people
on both sides that disgrace what the
group is supposed to stand for. Maybe
you should grow up and take that into
consideration next time you decide to
express your very amusing opinions of
the conservative party.

Sincerely,
Amber Jellots
