Students can learn more about
study abroad opportunities and
win prizes, including an iPod
Nano, at the Study Abroad Fair
on the Commons Plaza this
Wednesday.
Students must visit the registration
table in the plaza between
10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to participate
in the drawing that will determine
who gets the iPod Nano.
“It’s a great opportunity for
students to come and gather a lot
of information,” said Stephanie
Davenport, assistant director of
Education Abroad.
Booths will be manned by
experts who can explain current
study abroad opportunities and
answer students’ questions, Davenport
said. Students who have
previously studied abroad will
also be present to discuss their
experiences. Various representatives
from about 20 independent
study-abroad companies will
have booths, as well.
Davenport said affordability
is not as great an obstacle to
studying abroad as some might
think.
“There are more and more
scholarships available all the
time, ” she said.
Because of the Abraham Lincoln
Study Abroad Act, inspired
by the late Sen. Paul Simon, an
increasing number of federally
funded scholarships should be
available to students throughout
the next few years, Davenport
said.
Students always say studying
abroad is a life-changing experience,
Davenport said.
“The people that you meet
from all over the world, they
really change your perspective,”
Davenport said. “It changes your
perspective on what it is you’re
going to do with yourself.”
