IN THE NEWS

O.J. Simpson … arrested? … again?
… no way! You know what, I don’t even
care what he did. Congratulations to O.J.
for fi nding a way back into the news. Just
when I thought the only time I would
see or hear from the former running
back was when I was on the golf course
in Miami or looking at a T-shirt with the
words “drink apple juice because O.J.
will kill you,” he wanders back into our
lives. Honestly, Mr. Simpson – you are
wanted on charges dealing with the theft
of sports memorabilia – are you saying
you didn’t have enough from your playing
days with the Bills?

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Since I’m giving out congratulations,
how about a hand for the University of
Michigan. The Wolverines won Saturday’s
Mr. Irrelevant bowl by defeating Notre
Dame 38-0. I can’t remember the last
time a Michigan-Notre Dame game didn’t
mean something, especially this early in
the season. If you are a fan of the Fighting
Irish, perhaps it is time to wonder if
coach Charlie Weiss is everything he was
built up to be. While he led his fi rst two
teams to a combined 19-6 record and to
BCS games, Notre Dame has yet to win a
truly meaningful game under the former
New England Patriots assistant. This is
obviously a rebuilding year for Notre
Dame, but there is a difference between
rebuilding and not being competitive.

VCU

June Hartman’s hat trick to lead the
VCU women’s soccer team over Navy
was beautiful. Hartman’s ability to create
without space and her ability to make
her own space and score gives her a leg
up against competition. It is too bad she
was stuck playing center-midfi elder last
season. Hartman is one young player
who will certainly bring women’s soccer
to the top of the charts.
