The School of the Arts has created an interactive Web site for listing events and happenings. The site is named “Ester Knows,” after the mother of the founder of the School of the Arts, Theresa Pollak.
Four categories – “shows,” “us,” “guests” and “elsewhere” – appear on the main page, each with a scrolling slideshow of events or news and an accompanying photo.
“Shows” is of course a place to find upcoming arts events on and off campus. The “us” section features news about new faculty, and awards or press given to VCUarts faculty, alumni or students. “Guests” is where to find news about who the artists in residence are in the various art departments, or who is just stopping by campus to give a lecture or have a gallery show. “Elsewhere” is information about the out-of-town shows or news about VCUarts alumni, faculty or students.
Visitors to the site can subscribe to its rapidly changing content, or “feed,” using a live bookmark application on a Web browser. Visitors can also leave comments about any of the listed news and events.
To submit news or an event to be listed on the site, e-mail artsevents@vcu.com.
