Foul mouth grounds plane

Northwest Airlines canceled a Las Vegas to Detroit flight after the captain cursed on his cell phone while in the bathroom and then swore at one of the passengers.

During the boarding process, the captain left the cockpit to finish his phone conversation in the front lavatory.

I’ll happily admit to being a huge “Anchorman” fan, and have seen every subsequent farcical Will Farrell movie in hopes that it will be as good or better. “Blades of Glory” comes close.

First, I would like to address an incident that has probably been on many of the students’ minds this week. On Tuesday, there were two separate religious demonstrations being held on campus. I have been approached by many students who were concerned about whether or not such demonstrations were allowed on campus.

Kaine’s proposed smoking ban out

Smoking in restaurants will be permitted for at least another year, as a smoking ban amendment proposed by Gov. Tim Kaine was killed in the General Assembly.

The ban, which would have made smoking in any restaurant in the state illegal, had been tacked on to a bill sponsored by House Majority Leader Delegate Morgan Griffith, R-Salem.

Homeland Security program booms

When VCU started the Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Program in 2005, it planned to have 100 majors in five years. Instead, the program grew to 130 students in one year.

Freshman Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was named CAA golfer of the week on Tuesday. Campos tied for third last week at USA Spring Golf Classic with an 8-under 208. He shot the lowest round of the tournament on the third and final day with a 6-under 66.
