VCU’s campus is an apex for demonstrators, from anti-war lobbyists covering the Commons Plaza with soldiers’ shoes to anti-abortion activists distributing images of fetuses.

But the university has guidelines in place for addressing demonstrations on campus.

Oregon Hill group furious about proposed rec center

The demolition of two 19th-century stables to make way for a $50 million recreation center has revived longstanding tension between VCU and the Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association.

Reuban Rodriguez, dean of student affairs, said the construction scheduled to begin this fall is necessary to accommodate increasing student numbers.

Jared Bolden (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) went 3 for 3 with two RBI, but Old Dominion jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and held off VCU the rest of the way as the Monarchs took game one of the series with the Rams 9-3 Friday. Bolden’s perfect day at the plate made him 7 for 7 over two games going back to the victory over Richmond.

Rams and Monarchs split twin bill

VCU played extra baseball on a chilly Easter Sunday, splitting a double header with rival Old Dominion. The Rams won 5-4 in the first game and dropped the second 6-4.

The dance department’s Spring Informal concert is usually a full bill of pieces, since any student can show work.

Friday night’s free 25th annual Spring Informal at the Grace Street Theater was short, and not even very sweet.

The concert lacks a juried selection process unlike other performances.
