Men’s Tennis

Georgia State knocked the top-seeded Rams out of the CAA tournament Friday on their way to their first CAA championship. With a sweep of both doubles matches and No. 1 singles, the Panthers moved into Saturday’s semifinals after the 4-0 win. The Rams will mark May 1 on their calendar, the date when NCAA tournament bids will be announced. The upset comes a day after Petr Olsak and Arnaud Le Cloerec were named to the All-CAA singles and doubles first teams.

Women’s Tennis

No. 1 William & Mary led by top-ranked doubles team Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zorici topped VCU in the CAA Championship Sunday. VCU took one of three doubles matches in the loss. The 4-0 win was the Tribe’s first championship since 2005.

VCU beat Old Dominion 4-0 Saturday to enter the final.

On Thursday, Senior Olga Borisova (Minsk, Belarus) earned a slot on the All-CAA singles and doubles first teams for her fourth year. Partner Marianna Yuferova (St. Petersburg, Russia) joined her on the doubles team while Tatsiana Uvarova (Minsk, Belarus) joined her on the singles team.

Golf

ODU took the CAA Championship with a n859 for the tourney. VCU wound up in third behind nationally-ranked Georgia State. Senior Jens Fahrbring tied for second in the individual ranking at 214, four behind ODU’s John Murphy. Rafael Campus tallied a 217, good for tied for sixth.

Volleyball

Griselle Lopez Pereira is back at home – and on the court – again. She is competing in the Puerto Rican Women’s Volleyball Federation’s championship for her hometown team, “Las Crillos.” They are tied 1-1 in a series against Juncos team, “Valencianas.”

Lopez Pereira graduated in 2006 after smashing the VCU digs record at 2,088.

Cross Country

Jay Wyss (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) and Cary Chaffee (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) garnered top-ten finishes at the CAA championships in Newark, Del. They placed eighth and ninth in the 8K run, pushing the Rams into fifth in the tournament.

Women’s Track & Field

The women’s track and field team participated in the CAA championships at JMU in Harrisonburg. The Rams were led by seniors Ashley Rogers (Chesapeake,Va./ Deep Creek) and Nikki Arrington (Midlothian, Va./Mary Washington) and junior Danielle Williams (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem). Rogers placed sixth in discus and seventh in shot put. Arrington finished third in hammer, while Williams finished eighth in the 1500 m. The 4×100 and 4×400 team also placed eighth in each event. The team finished in ninth place overall.
