BASEBALL
After consecutive losses to Old Dominion and Virginia, the Rams got back over the weekend by taking 2 of 3 games in Atlanta against Georgia State. VCU won game one 10-9 in 10 innings when Jared Bolden (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) scored on a wild pitch. Georgia State led 9-6 after eight innings, but VCU scored three runs in the ninth to send it into the extra frame. The black and gold overcame the Panthers’ three-run third inning to win 7-5. Cody Eppley (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) struck out six batters over seven innings to pick up the win. The Panthers bounced back in game three with a 12-11 win. Georgia State scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to avoid the sweep. Chris Jackson (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) and Barrett Ripley (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) each had two RBI in the loss.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore sensation Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) was named second-team All-State by sports information directors in Virginia. This is the second straight season she has received the honor.
Head coach Beth Cunningham announced the final addition to the 2007 recruiting class on Friday when Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria/Daytona Beach CC) signed a Letter of Intent during this month’s signing period. The 6’0 small forward averaged 12.6 points per game last season at Dayton Beach Community College.
MEN’S TENNIS
The 29th-ranked Rams extended their winning streak to four with a 4-3 win over No. 38 Virginia Tech on Wednesday and a 5-2 triumph over No. 31 William & Mary. VCU ends its season with a 17-7 record going into the CAA and NCAA tournaments.
