The race is on

Housing, parking and advising were among the many time-tested issues the three presidential candidates for the Monroe Park Campus Student Government Association debated Thursday night in the University Student Commons.

The candidates – Jessica Lee, William Moehl and Clint Titsworth, all current SGA members – took questions from moderator Carrie Whittier, associate director for programs and educational services, and audience members for almost two hours, causing the event to go beyond its scheduled end time.

LONDON – The moon darkened, reddened, and turned shades of gray and orange Saturday night during the first total lunar eclipse in nearly three years, thrilling stargazers and astronomers around the world.

The Earth’s shadow took more than six hours to crawl across the moon’s surface, eating it into a crescent shape before engulfing it completely in a spectacle at least partly visible on every continent.

Girl lost in poker game

A 17-year-old Pakistani girl, whose late father lost her in a poker game when she was 2 years old, is asking authorities to save her from being turned over to a middle-aged relative.

The girl’s father racked up a debt of 10,000 rupees ($151) with the 45-year-old male relative while playing cards.

Bananaphone! In 1994, children’s music maverick Raffi released the album, with a ridiculously catchy song of the same name, “Bananaphone.” A death metal band and a country singer have covered it. It’s also become an Internet classic. A YouTube search of “banana phone” turns up 1,470 results.

The golden boy of Richmond

All told, it took David Shultz and his new band The Skyline a year to create his brand new sophomore album, “Sinner’s Gold.”

“It’s a little warmer than my first album that was recorded in February. This one was recorded in August, and I think you can tell,” Shultz said.

I’m a crazy mixture of things – of experiences, affiliations and allegiances. But I can assure you, being non-religious is hard, much harder than it may seem. In a way, it seems a mixture of blessing and curse. Of course, all of the things that accompany religion – obligation and abstinence from certain types of behaviors – do not apply to me.
