Salmonella outbreak doesn’t bother VCU students

Peanut butter was blamed for the recent Salmonella outbreak across the country, causing some people to think twice before purchasing certain food products. At VCU, however, the national outbreak created little discussion among students.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause humans and animals to become ill.

Students teach tech in VCU program

Professors interested in bringing new technology into their classrooms are turning to a non-traditional source – students.

“Students often have skills faculty members don’t,” said Zachary Goodell, an associate director at the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Ratty restaurants

A video of rats running around in a New York City restaurant was broadcast on television last week, but health experts say there are more dangerous things to worry about at restaurants.

The New York City Health Department said employees that don’t wash their hands and foods stored at improper temperatures pose a greater health risk to restaurant patrons than rodents do.

VCU Trumpet Studio saluted

“I chose the best cats,” said VCU trumpet professor Rex Richardson of his selection of the Trumpet Studio he created two years ago. “I recognized that it was a great way to deal with chamber music and get students exposure to performances.”

For the second year in a row, the studio ensemble has made it to the semi-finals of the National Trumpet Competition.
