Rams’ toughness, Maynor’s heroics upset Blue Devils

BUFFALO, N.Y. – VCU was given the tough task of taking down the Duke Blue Devils, a team that had reached the Sweet 16 in each of the past nine consecutive seasons. The Rams would show they were up for the challenge, though, just as they had been all year long.

Men’s basketball surpassed expectations

Saturday night was a disappointment for me. Not because VCU lost to Pittsburgh, but because the season finally ended. The loss to the Panthers was not unexpected. The Panthers, ranked 13th in the country by the Associated Press, have very talented guards and a towering 7-foot center in Aaron Gray.

VCU’s final comeback falls short in OT

BUFFALO, N.Y. -VCU’s bid for the Sweet 16 came up short Saturday night at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y. as the Rams fell to the Pittsburg Panthers 84-79 in overtime.

The first half was one to forget for the Rams. The Panthers were led by the inside presence of seven-foot center Aaron Gray.

Weird News

Soccer stalkers

Throwing objects during a British soccer match is a crime, for which offenders can be arrested, the Chelsea team warned their fans on Friday.

The Football Association is investigating two recent games in which the fans threw celery onto the field.

auditions: Standing out in the crowd

The pressure is on for people auditioning for the Theatre VCU program, as only 60 out of hundreds of applicants are accepted each semester. The program is looking for applicants who have at least a high school level of acting or community theater experience.

Bare-bones Shakespeare

Two lines of chairs on both sides of a long, narrow room greet you upon entering the chapel in the Second Presbyterian Church on 5th Street for the 8 p.m. performance of Richmond Shakespeare Theatre’s “Twelfth Night.”

At first it seems like an awkward space, for the audience and the actors all to be bathed in the same warm unchanging light, and for the halves of the audience of 25 to be facing each other.

The Death of Darwinism

It’s ironic that we are told on the one hand that we ought to have a high sense of self-esteem, but on the other hand that we humans came about accidentally and for no particular purpose (there’s nothing self-esteemy about being called “lucky mud”).

Well, don’t worry.
