BASEBALL
The Rams won the first two games of the series with Wagner, 16-6 and 10-9. The victory in game one was sparked by an eight-run second inning. Saturday’s game was much tougher. VCU found itself down 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth, but came up big with three runs in the inning and the lone run in the 10th to steal the win.

John Leonard (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) got the win in the first game, to improve his record to 3-1. Kwan Evans (Hampton, Va./Bethel) hit a walk-off homerun to give the Rams the win in the second game.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Eric Maynor (Fayetteville, N.C./Westover) and B.A. Walker (Onancock, Va./Nandua) earned the athletic department a little bit of money for their efforts during the NCAA tournament. Maynor’s game-winning shot against Duke and Walker’s 3-pointer to tie Pittsburgh at 67 with 1:42 left in regulation were chosen as the NCAA’s Pontiac Game Changing Performance by fans. The athletic department won $5,000 for the accolades. The shots have a chance at being selected for the “final four.” The winner of the final group receives $100,000 for scholarships.
MEN’S TENNIS
Just four days after moving back into the top 20, the Rams fell to No. 26 Old Dominion 4-3 on Saturday. VCU led 3-2 and appeared to be in the driver’s seat for victory, but No. 27 Henrique Cancado defeated Arnaud Le Cloerec (Plouhinec, France) 6-2 4-6 6-2 and 17th-ranked Harel Srugo defeated Petr Olsak (Novy Jicin, Czech Republic) 7-6 7-6 to take the victory. The Rams fall to 13-7 with the loss while the Monarchs improve to 13-4.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
The 25th-ranked Rams lost their second match in a row, this time a 6-1 decision against No. 46 Texas Christian. Freshman Olena Leonchuck (Kiev, Ukraine) defeated Amy Beck 6-0 6-1 to earn the only Rams victory of the day. The loss drops the Rams to 17-5 and improved the Horned Frogs to 9-7.
MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
The Rams have kicked off the outdoor season in style, taking home numerous victories in the first two events. James Frierson (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) took home the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.34 seconds at the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The black and gold posted six victories in the following event, the Fred Hardy Invitational. Freshman DeAngelo Wilson (Richmond, Va./Prince Edward) won the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 10.88 and 22.02 seconds, respctively. Guy Alton (Richmond, Va./New Kent) won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:51.54. Jay Wyss (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:56.39.
