Literal sex-ed
A woman who routinely had sex with her boyfriend in front of her 9-year-old daughter to educate her about sex was sentenced to three years probation.
The 37-year-old Rhode Island woman and her 33-year-old boyfriend received the same sentence. The pair told investigators they thought it would help the girl learn. They said they let the girl watch, but did not compel her to engage in sexual activity.
“Basically, and I’m tempted to say idiotically, they believed it was helpful to the girl, Ms. Arnold’s daughter; they believed it was helpful to her development to see them engaging in various sex acts in front of her,” said Mike Healey, spokesman for the state attorney.
Models distracting
Carmakers in South Korea are planning to cut the number of scantily clad models at the Seoul Motor Show. The car companies are hoping to get people to pay more attention to their cars, rather than the models.
The April car show usually attracts thousands of men who come to take photos of the women in revealing outfits.
Hyundai Motor Company and its affiliate Kia are planning to hire fewer models this year. Together, the companies make up the world’s sixth-largest carmaker. Hyundai will be unveiling several new models and a concept car at the show.
Last year, Renault Samsung Motors changed its models attire from miniskirts to more modest business suits. The company also gave the models handheld computers to help answer questions about the cars.
Gourmet space food
A billionaire Hungarian software mogul who’s going into space had his friend Martha Stewart select his space-going menu. Space Adventures, Ltd. will send Charles Simonyi to the International Space Station on April 7.
The menu Stewart selected includes quail roasted in Madrian wine, duck breasts with capers, shredded chicken parmentier, apple fondant pieces, rice pudding with candied fruit and semolina cake with dried apricots.
Associates of French chef-restaurateur Alain Ducasse have already prepared the mogul’s gourmet food. It was packed into aluminum containers for his trip.
Joining Simonyi for his special dinner will be a Russian cosmonaut and two U.S. astronauts living aboard the space station, along with the crew of the Soyuz rocket that will take him to the station.
“I am really looking forward to sharing this dinner with my crewmates on the station,” Simonyi said in a statement. “Although the food is very good there, it is somewhat basic, and after a couple of weeks, everything starts tasting the same. I am certain a little variation will be surely welcome.”
Simonyi, who has been romantically linked with Stewart, paid between $20 million and $25 million for the 10-day stay aboard the space station.
