MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams will find out their destination for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday after the conclusion of all the conference tournaments. CBS will show the brackets during a selection show at 6:00 p.m.

BASEBALL

The Rams scored seven runs in the first two innings to supply all the fire power they would need in a 9-4 victory over Virginia Tech Tuesday. Sophomore Jared Bolden (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) extended his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI single in the first inning. He finished 3 for 5 with three RBIs. John Leonard (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) improved his record to 2-0 with the win. He pitched six innings and allowed two hits while striking out five. The Hokies scored all four of their runs in the top of the ninth inning.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TENNIS

After leading the 2006 tennis teams to a combined 54 wins and NCAA tournament berths, head coach Paul Kostin was named the 2006 Mid-Atlantic College Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association. Entering his 17th season at VCU, Kostin ranks sixth among active coaches with 729 combined wins.
In women’s tennis news, the Rams defeated conference foe Georgia State 7-0 last Sunday. Olga Borisova (Minsk, Belarus) recorded her 81st-career singles win and is now two away from being in fourth place in the VCU record book. Marianna Yuferova (St. Petersburg, Russia) won her singles match, her 61st win of her career, to take over eighth-place. As a duo, the two took home their 54th win, six away from being the best in VCU history.
